Course Description
Digital Photography
This course will help the students become well rounded in the fundamentals of digital photography. Five areas of instruction will be emphasized: How cameras work, how composition works, how lighting works, how to use photo editing software, and art appreciation. Students will receive basic instruction, demonstration, and see samples of the desired outcomes. They will be allowed to go outside and shoot assignments, based on what they are learning. They will see what makes a successful photo and what does not. They will critique other students’ work and professional artists work to be able to voice their personal opinions and analyze the artwork. Students will create an online portfolio of their digital work.
At the end of this course, students will:
  • Know how to use various features of the camera to have creative control of your photographs.
  • Be able to decide what type of lighting to use in a given situation to produce optimum results.
  • See how photographic composition can make or break a photograph
  • Understand how to use photo editing software to improve the overall appearance of images
  • Critique, justify, and present choices in the process of analyzing, selecting, curating, and presenting artwork for a specific exhibit or event. 
  • Interpret an artwork or collection of works, supported by relevant and sufficient evidence found in the work and its various contexts.
  • Establish relevant criteria in order to evaluate a work of art or collection of works.
  • Synthesize knowledge of social, cultural, historical, and personal life with art-making approaches to create meaningful works of art or design.
